Family Limerick Contest

I thought we should have us a little Limerick contest. I'll start it by writing about my two brothers. Just remember... it's just for fun! See what else you can add!

For many, their "Bob" is a Setter;
But for uncles you can't find 'em better.
Though he isn't dumb
His name is humdrum,
Except when his niece adds a letter!

Now there's not much to say about Tim...
He's the tallest, and (for now) the most slim.
You can tell by his hair...
No-- I ain't goin' there...
Let's just say that Micaiah's outgrown him!

YOu win!! I needed a good laugh! I live the limericking up to Bob for our fam.

Donna Ruth is a teacher by trade
And in French she scores a high grade
She likes to scrap book,
She's a very good cook
Don't forget all the memories she's made.

And last but not least there's Johanna
Oh boy! Can she play the piana
And though she's the baby
She has a man --- maybe
On her fiddle he likes "O Suzanna."

There once was a lass named "Bonnie Jo"
The land she doth love is "Bordeaux"
She's as sweet as can be
She'd not hurt a small flea
But to go without coffee---OH NO!

Diapers were Robert's first duty
Long before he laid eyes on his beauty
Then a trip to the zoo
Not long after, "I do"
It took monkeys to reel in his cutie

Dan is such a good brother;
His talents exceed all other.
He, too, plays piano,
And is nobody's dumbo,
To think--he inherited all this from his mother!

You are both hilarious....but Brenda wins so far. I would love to continue to comment, but off to retreat for us. Too bad, I am tempted to pull out your old valentines!

Mom and Dad said...

Brenda to our lives adds spice;
She's witty, clever and, oh, so nice.
With Elise, Isa and Ben,
She makes home a cozy den...
Unless, that is, she sees mice!

You are keeping me from my work :-) My mind is on riddles and not on vittles (or whatever food is called!)

It's hard to remember life before JennIE;
Our lives must have been quite emptIE.
She's a five-star cook,
And her house looks like a book...
But her joy in life is to be "MommIE."

You guys are too cute. Maybe we'll enter the contest later ... but, oh boy, I don't know that we'll be able to compete!

As you well know, I can't write limericks as can my wife,
In the first place I'd never heard the word in all my life.
To me, they're just cute little rhymes, but of course I'm not up with the times.
So I'll stick with:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet
And my kids are the funniest kids on the planet.

OK, ya'll all I can think of is this limerick thing.....who started it anyway????? :-) I love reading them, keep 'em comin'. I'm a little 'afeered' that the 2 'boys' will put their heads together, and whollop Danno with a good one!!! :-)

The brothers - we'd love to restore them;
But their input we need -- we implore them.
Unless, like their dad,
Their ryhmes are so bad
That we'd promptly be apt to ignore them!

My precious, cousin Miriam Ruth
Has not yet lost her tooth
She bumped her head
(not by falling out of bed)
but by falling out the door...that's the truth!

Spiffy little Patience sure knows how to wear her clothes!
She's all about her rings (on her fingers--not her toes!).
She's pretty and sweet,
And so VERY neat.
When it comes to taking pictures, she can really strike a pose.

It seems that my brothers think they're superior;
That writers of rhyme are somehow inferior.
They don't like to laugh,
They're as stiff as a staff,
Even though I've poetically kicked their posterior!

Daniel said...

Good one, Donna...
Except.... long, boring spines?
Explain.

Daniel said...

Jo... you're next. Better hurry up!

It is with reluctant condescension

That I join this limirecked cogitation

For silence defined as "non-cooperation"

Is nothing more than sibling manipulation.

By dread of character mis-representation

I have succumbed to Dan's intimidation:

"Awake! O, Stunted Imagination!

Exert thyself in pining, non-limerick desperation!

Perhaps thy piteous, but pithy, annotation

Though absent the anapestic qualification

Will appease thy sibling's demand for instant participation."

JennieB said...

My contribution:

Bob, Bob, he's my man,

If he can't do it,

Nobody can!

Daniel said...

Bravo! I knew you could do it. It's amazing what a good poetic kick in the posterior will do!

Daniel said...

Of course, of course. I was asking for everyone else's benefit ;-). JK.

I have the nerve to write with verve
But no hubristic motive found
When in my heart I looked around
Yet now I sense my need to serve.

A rhyming line may seem real fine
May serve to feed one’s narcissism
(A wretched form of egotism)
Yet in the end be asinine.

Words that rise to aquiline heights
Alliteration All Avoid
Of all pedantry are devoid
But feed the soul with rare delights

So with this plebeian introduction
I strive to fill the vacuousness
(said in sincere objectiveness)
Found in my siblings’ education

here goes:

A man and wife, they had a son
They thought, “Not bad” for a dry run
They tried once again
In beau Switzerland
But found number three* was the one**

*The third boy, not the third child.
**“The one” is poetic shorthand for “the intelligent one,” “the good looking one,” etc.

I'd love to be happy and shout "good job!"
I hate to be doubtful and any joy rob.
But to tell you the truth,
I think it was Ruth
Who exalted her Tim, and abused Dan and Bob.

You all remember the Hurst family from our church, right? (Some of the nicest people on the planet!)Well ... here's Judy's contribution to our rhyming game:

There is a special family of sixteen,
It consists of young, old and inbetween, (not too old)

Some live real near and some live real far,
Some you can't even get to by a car.

There are preachers and teachers, bakers and cooks,
Scrapbookers, writers and lovers of books.

All are so talented; the Lord truly has blessed.
Some can sing beautifully, and play the piano with finesse.

We are so glad to know this family--
They mean much to us as you can see.

We love them dearly and are thankful our paths have crossed--
But always remember, Robert Bixby, Sr., is boss!
