We were so glad that Johanna and Brian told us about the opportunity to get "Rush Tickets" with the BSO. We went early to pick up our tickets, moseyed over to Au Bon Pain for a pastry and hot chocolate, and then returned to the Symphony Hall for the pre-concert talk. The concert featured a modern work titled The Way to Castle Yonder by English composer Knussen, Dvorak's "emotionally turbulent" Symphony No. 7, and the famous "Emperor Concerto" by Beethoven. It was an excellent evening, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Again, thank you Brian & Johanna for suggesting it and for babysitting!

Glad you all had fun!
Oh, I forgot to mention that we almost got to hear the famous pianist Leon Fleisher, who began his career as a performer even before WWII. But, unfortunately, he was out with the "stomach flu". (Like everybody else, I guess!) It was still a neat experience, since our conductor Julian Kuerti, who was debuting as assistant conductor with the BSO, was able to enlist the help of his father Anton Kuerti (another world-renowned pianist) to fill in. The audience seemed to love the human interest angle of the father-son duo.
Wonderful! So glad you got to do that. The BSO is one of the world's best!
Was Knussen there for the pre-concert talk? If he was, what did you think of him? Jennie and I got the biggest kick out of him? VERY eccentric!
We have the first recording of Leon Fleisher's after he got the use of both his hands again: "Two Hands." Very impressive. The story is impressive.
It is really too bad you didn't get to see him. I'm not familiar with Kuerti. Wikipedia gave me the brief synopsis.
No, I'm afraid Knussen wasn't in the hall. Did you guys hear him with the CSO? Our pre-concert talk was given by "a member of the Boston musical community". ;-) (She said her name, but I can't remember it.) She wasn't any particular part of the program other than that, and she certainly wasn't very eccentric.
Okay, I was so excited to see that no one has mentioned the picture on the wall behind Tim! (FYI, Tim has the picture!) Cool! So glad you had a good tim and Kuerti means absolutely nothing to me, nor does Fleisher, but, heh, I'm glad you were impressed and had a wonderful time!
No idea whatsoever how my comment posted twice. Weird!
sounds wonderful! and i recognize the pic behind Tim!
Was the picture behind Tim the guy that was supposed to play the piano or the guy who did play the piano. I'm confused.
hahaha!
What fun!! brings back so many memories.... I'm glad you all got to get away for an evening and enjoy something that you both love so much!!
I don't get the whole picture conversation. What am I missing?
D&M gave me the same print that is on the wall in the restaurant--boy running with bread.
Ruth - you look so cute! Every time I look at this post I think: "she looks so cute!" (If it's ok to say so.) Hope your weekend goes well!
You're sweet, Amy. I think I like you. ;-)
