Autumn and adoption

Yesterday was our day off, and so we availed ourselves of the opportunity to drive up into our nearby mountains and enjoy the autumn splendor. The colors were rich. Still a good bit of green sprinkled in, but I think fall is about at it's peak here. We drove up to Caesar's Head--and what beauty we found only 30 miles from our back door! Following our morning excursion, we visited the Greenville Humane Society and ...
... we adopted Mirabel!!! She is some sort of Spitz mix (from the same family as sled dogs such as Siberian Huskies & Alaskan Malamuts, though she is much smaller than either of those breeds). She is very docile and sweet, and seems to be a perfect fit for our family. Can't wait to introduce her to all of you!

WOW!!!! You guys are AWESOME parents!!!! Now our kids are really going to put the screws into us!!! Thanks a lot, fellow Bixby brothers!!! What a beautiful DOG!!!! I am so glad that you stuck with the 'M' theme! :-) Our kids will love seeing her when we're there. Congratulations on the new 'little one'!!!!! WAHOOOOOOOO!!!! Arf Arf!

Congratulations! How old is she?

We don't really know her age. She and her brother--assumed to be her brother b/c they came together and look very much alike--were strays that had been turned in to the Humane Society about 1-2 weeks ago. So they knew nothing about her background. They did surmise, however, that she was most likely full grown.

You guys do have an excellent yard!!!

The scenery is beautiful! Since I didn't comment on Milou, I won't on Mirabel :-) What is happening to my family??? All my training gone to the dogs! Mom (of course!)

The blog was down yesterday so I was delayed in commenting. What a beautiful dog to enjoy with the beautiful colors of fall. Will she be an indoor or an outdoor pet?

OK......the kids are now thinking it is just perfect that we adopt a CAT named "Macy" (from a couple moving from our church)......all because it starts with 'M'. :-/ Help me out here fellow-commrades!

Personally you could pay me enough to share my house with a cat!! There that's my opinion. But I do think you would ALL enjoy a little puppy named Macy! :-)....

There, did that help Brendy Lou?

Brenda,
I think Jennie meant that in the negative. I certainly would. Please don't get a cat. I would hate to have to fight the temptation to think down on you. You're such nice people!

Bob and Jennie,
We are extremely grateful to you for leading the way. I've always preferred to be the second one to make an unpopular move--not the first. We were a little miffed that you stole such a good dog name. I wanted to call her "Idefix" but it just didn't flow.

Mom,
I've been waiting in fear and trepidation for a comment from the matriarch. Please don't take it as a statement of derision on the wonderful upbringing we received. Just celebrate the fact that we have gone "above and beyond" what you could have hoped for. We're training her to jump up on grandmas and lick their faces. She should be ready by December.

Oooo. You are giving Markus bad ideas. I ask as well: indoor or outdoor?

TRBix said...

outdoor. :-) Though I can see how people fall in love with them and eventually allow them all the way into their bedrooms. That said, she will still always be OUTDOORS.

Hey... I'm starting to like this! For once, I'M the one standing firm on my own TWO legs!
Actually, I'm happy for both of my wayward brothers. I'm glad that Tim doesn't mind cleaning up after her, that Ruth likes making doggie dinners, that Donna likes its nozzle (to use her term... whatever), and I can't wait to see Mom show her graciousness and affection when she gets smooched by Mirabel.

Don't worry yourselves about the cat thing......I like my leather couch too much to endure cat claws!

Donna, you REALLY should get the brother. I feel quite strongly about this......OR......you could give it as a WEDDING GIFT!!!!! ;-)

I'll think of you when I see people walk past with their "pooches" and "pouches"--is that a rule in Greenville to only walk with a pouch?! Or, I'll be so happy when my food bill is ????$$$$ less thanks to not having to put a bag of DOG CHOW in my cart! ;-) Oh, and I don't think any VET bills will be here either.....but the heart does tug at having a fur ball in my lap on cold winter nights......mmmmmm.....you'll have to let me know if it's worth it all. :-)

Yes, Donna I think she is just to shy to say anything directly, but is hoping that you will pick-up on her thoughtful pondering and buy it for her wedding gift.

Speaking of wedding gifts... are you registered anywhere Jo?

Mom and Dad said...

Jo is registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target and Belks.......but NOT at PetLand. At least, if she is, she is keeping it a secret so she doesn't get in the doghouse BEFORE she gets married.

Hey - we love your dog, too. Thanks for sharing the website and her pics with us. She will bring you all lots of fun, loyalty, and memories! Glad you broke in and joined the adoption team! Hope all goes well during the adjustment period.

Oh but JO!!!! I think you should reconsider!!!!
